When signing up for a Google account, you may be offered a free trial of the subscription. You need to opt into a subscription to accept the trial period and have the right to opt out at any time during the trial period. You will be automatically charged after the trial period if they haven't opted out.
If you don't turn off auto-renewal before the renewal period, you'll have to continue to pay the renewal fee. To turn it off, you have to go to Google Account Settings and cancel your subscription at any time, but please note that you will not get a refund for any remaining period of a subscription.
